Belden CDT Inc. has announced that John S. Stroup has been appointed president, chief executive officer, and director, effective October 31, 2005. He replaces C. Baker Cunningham, who announced his decision to retire in May.

Stroup, 39, joins Belden CDT from Danaher Corporation, where he was group executive of Danaher Motion, a $1.1 billion revenue business engaged in the development and application of precision motor control solutions targeted at the medical, factory automation, aerospace, defense, and transportation markets, a post to which he was named in 2003. He joined Danaher in 2000 as vice president, business development for Danaher's Motion Group.

In 2001, he was appointed president of the Kollmorgen industrial and commercial division, and, shortly thereafter, was named president of General Purpose Systems, the largest segment within the motion platform. Bryan Cressey, Belden CDT's chairman of the board, said, "We're excited about John's decision to join our company. His background includes general management, marketing, and operational experience in both U.S. and international environments. He has a remarkable record of transforming businesses through organic growth, acquisitions, and expansion into global markets. His experience and understanding of the international marketplace will be a significant asset to our strategic growth."

Stroup earned a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Northwestern University in 1988 and an M.B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley Haas School of Business in 1994.
